MAP GAS and FLUX !!! Melting Gold
okay but what is flux, and what does it do exactly and how did you get that shine on your crucible? - od Leonard Greenpaw
Hi Jeff, Great videos, thanks. I have some gold that was melted with aluminum. What is the best way to separate these metals so I have the 95% that you are getting. chemical?, torching? thanks. - od Del Norte Chiropractic
Awesome! BTW I started watching videos where you melt gold into bars, ingots, or anything, yesterday when I found that video after watching someone pouring molten aluminum into a pool - od WindowsFanMade
I'm not trying to be difficult but you really need to preheat your crucible first before you put your gold in the crucible. If you are doing several melts, back to back, then you only need to preheat it once. You should also wait to pour the flux in just before the gold becomes molten, and just a tiny pinch will do. Too much flux can cause porosity. I know this because I'm a bench jeweler. - od Dani Vela-Perez
Flux...why not borax?? - od Jose Ramirez

Hi Jeff. Great videos, really enjoyed them. I used to poke around in the hills and find cool rock specimens. Never knew you could actually vaporize gold, does it simply evaporate into the air? I saw on your one video with your dry washer it looked like you were using the same leaf blower motor for that too that you used for your vac-pack? Also which is the most productive method, 1) roasting pyrites/sulfides or 2) crushing and panning? I'm up in the Portland area but hoping to get out soon and do some panning. Don't let slim steal your gold!! - od Doug Van Tassell
Thanks again for instruction... Jeff is That Flux Called Chapman flux ? - od john wakefield

I'm using propane, can get the gold orange/red but it's not melting. what am I missing, flux, acid more heat? - od Eric Wight
So you can over heat and vaporize gold? Can you burn gold? Respond..? - od greg drake
Trivia: Gold is created during the final stages of a supernova explosion that reaches a temperature of 100 billion degrees. Gold is so rare because the temperature that is needed for its creation (100 billion degrees) only lasts for about 15 seconds as the blast waves collide with the outer layers of the star. - od Scott Martin

Where can i buy the dish you have to melt my gold in or what's the material is made of or called? I bought me a little graphite crucible and tried melting my gold but it won't liquefy it just melts down. I have map gas on bernzomatic torch so i don't know if that's even hot enough. Please help advise. I think it won't melt because my crusible is round tube so my flame is not direct heat and getting full temperature i don't know. Thank you - od ahnc 420
