I found a heavy pure ore sample, I crushed it up and put it in a jar. I got muric acid for gold testing 22k, 18k, 14k, 10k and mixed them together. I then poured it over ore in jar and lots of fumes came off it outside. I left it in solution for half a year and added hydrogen peroxide. Then let it sit for 4 months mixing it every now and then. I got the remaining ore out safely and it dried and was washed and is in a bag dried. I need a crucible so I'm thinking an iron one, I also need borax. And I own a big kiln with a vent. My question is I know my sample is not pure what do you recommend me adding to the crucible with the borax before I try melting it? Can you give me any advice on what you think I need? I have safely welding mask, big gloves. I do not have a crucible too - od Stan Smith

Borax can be bought at the grocery store in the washing powder section. It is also used along with washing powder, when in the presence of hot water it creates Hydrogen Peroxide which is a color brightener basically a safe bleach. I just found out about this on "Periodic Tables of Videos" do a youtube search. - od Peter Hall
